Soho House Group | Soho Farmhouse
Nick Jones’ successful Soho House formula and business model is reproduced once again in an innovative way at Soho Farmhouse on the Great Tew Estate in Oxfordshire. The latest country retreat; a boutique hotel set in a beautiful landscaped setting either side of the River Dorn with many luxurious waterside lodges or more traditional country Farmhouse accommodation, including a restored working watermill feature. Indoor and outdoor infinity pools set cleverly within a Boathouse building, which is part of the lake, should make for an extremely relaxing break. With function rooms for weddings etc, its own ice rink, gymnasium, cinema and all the normal sports facilities one would expect, in fact, you would not need to leave the 100 acre site.
Soho Farmhouse is located above the Sharpe’s Hill formation, an outcrop of ironstone which acts as a large water catchment to recharge Chipping Norton’s aquifers. For the Investors to proceed in backing this project a planning condition needed to be satisfied which was gaining a bespoke Environmental Permit to allow the daily discharge of 100 m3 of biologically treated waste water direct into the River Dorn. Acting as agents for Soho House Advanced Aeration took responsibility for producing a waste water treatment strategy along with a Treatment plant designed to meet a 20 mg/l BOD, 30 mg/l SS, 5 mg/l Ammonia, 3 mg/l Total Phosphate, as there is swimming pool backwash and hot tubs involved we also have a 2 microgram limit on total chlorine (0.002 mg/l).
Having proven to Soho House at their other UK country retreat, the popular Babington House, where we have been treating the waste since its opening in 1998 and discharges into the lakes provides confidence in process reliability and performance was not an issue.
A smaller Bio-Bubble was permitted and also installed to treat the waste from the remote staff accommodation block.
